Where do you get your beeswax?

We get our beeswax from sources in Western Canada.

What are the benefits of beeswax?

Beeswax is long burning and it burns cleanly. Burning beeswax candles are a natural air cleaner. Beeswax candles have a bright, golden flame and are virtually dripless in a draft free environment.

Why would I choose beeswax candles over paraffin candles?

Paraffin is a petroleum by-product. It is bleached and cleaned with benzene, solvents and other chemicals to prepare it for candle use. It produces soot and emissions when burned. For more information read What is Paraffin?

Why would I choose beeswax candles over other natural candles like soy wax or palm wax?

Beeswax candles come in their natural state. The only process the wax goes through is filtering. It doesn’t go rancid like soy wax. Both soy wax and palm wax are hydrogenated and both come with concerns about their environmental impact. Please read our blogs What about Soy Wax? and What about Palm Wax?

How do you make your beeswax candles?

Our candles are handmade either by hand pouring in to molds or in the case of our birthday candles they are dipped.

Do you filter your wax?

Yes we filter the beeswax right here in our shop to take out propolis and debris. That means we know that no chemicals are used and the process is completely nontoxic.

Do you bleach or dye your white wax?

No we do not use bleach or dye to make our white beeswax. Because we filter the wax ourselves we can make our own white beeswax and we know that the process is nontoxic.

What do you use to color your beeswax?

We use minute amounts of envirodye that is non-carcinogenic. To find out more about envirodyes click here

Why are your beeswax candles so expensive?

Why would I buy beeswax Honey Candles® rather than beeswax candles from a local source?

Honey Candles® main focus is producing beeswax candles. Our expert candle makers have been making beeswax Honey Candles® since 1994. Techniques and quality from local producers vary and candles are often a side line. Price should not be the deciding factor.  The quality of your burning experience should be.  

• Your candles must burn well. For each size and type of candle we have different wicks. We test and retest the wicks. We ensure the wax is properly filtered. We don’t launch a new candle until we are sure the burn is the best it can be. It is important that you are happy when you burn Honey Candles® pure beeswax candles.
• Your candles must be safe. When we made the new Honey candles® Essentials besides testing and retesting the wicks we tested the amount of essential oils that made the Votives and Tins burn perfectly. Essential oils are touchy and can be volatile. Your candles must have the right amount of scent and you must be safe. Beware of candle companies that suggest you put a few drops of essential oils into your candles. This could result in a big flame or worse.

My beeswax pillar burned a tunnel down the middle when I burned it. What happened?

Beeswax pillars need to be burned at least 3 hours to form a pool of melted wax the width of the candles. Do you scent your beeswax?

Most of our beeswax candles are not scented. Only Honey Candles® Essentials Votives and Tins are scented with blends of 100% pure essential oils.
