Here are the dos and don’ts of burning beeswax Votives.
Please don’t treat your beeswax Votive like a mini pillar. I’ve been in homes where I’ve seen natural beeswax Votives sitting in pillar holders ready to burn. Beeswax Votives are meant to be burned in votive cups that fit snuggly. This enables the Votive to totally liquefy which is the right way for beeswax Votives to burn effectively and completely. Usually the wick doesn’t need to be trimmed on a Votive unless the flame is flickering and producing smoke. I always remove the paper label on the bottom of the Votive and put a teaspoon of water or coarse salt in the bottom of the Votive cup before placing the votive in it. This makes for easier removal of the wick tab and wax after the candle has burned down. You may also place the cup in the freezer for easy wax removal. Votives have a large wick tab to hold the wick up and centered. The tab also helps disperse the heat for a safer burn.
