The Emergency Candle Every Outdoors Lover Should Own

beeswax emergency candlesIf this photo gets you excited and has you dreaming about the back country then you probably should know about the pure beeswax Honey Candles® Emergency Candle in the inset in the left hand corner of this photo.

Our beeswax emergency candle is different from any paraffin emergency candle because it will burn 3 to 4 times hotter. Beeswax is naturally long burning so this tin will burn for 24 hours as was recommended to us by a Search and Rescue member. A similarly sized paraffin emergency candle needs synthetic hardeners to burn as long as our beeswax candle which means it may be emitting toxins as it burns. Pure beeswax on the other hand burns cleanly without toxic fumes.

Another feature of our Honey Candles® Emergency Candle is the metal straps that are included. These straps can be stretched across the top and used to support a tin that may be used to heat water or food when the candle is burning. Best to use a smallish tin to give the flame oxygen and it will do the job.

We think that a Honey Candles® Emergency Candle should be part of every camping trip. It should be part of your kayaking adventures and your backcountry ski or snowmobile exploits. It is an essential  item for your vehicle emergency preparedness plan for wintertime breakdowns or storm delays. The Government of Canada recommends that an emergency candle in a tin with matches be part of every vehicle emergency kit. This little candle fits their description perfectly. I’m sure it has occurred to you already that you will want to have one or more of these candles as a component of your home emergency supplies. Every time there is a big storm, a flood or an earthquake more of the public wants to have one of these handy – just in case.

beeswax candlesWhen you make that backcountry ski trip to the cabin in the mountains you might like to take some of our other beeswax candles along just to make it cozy. Some of the very remote cabins don’t have electricity so this could be an essential.  It gets dark early so make sure you bring enough. You will be pleased that beeswax does burn so long however. A beeswax Honey Candles® 3 inch Pillar will burn up to 45 hours. Just be sure you burn it three hours each time you burn it to make a nice wide wax pool. If you want light for just a short time try some of our beeswax candlesticks.

Imagine sitting around a fire after a great day of skiing, with the soft glow of beeswax candles, in a remote cabin on the top of a mountain in December. Does life get better than this?
