If you have never heard of Hygge, you are not alone. It is not a term commonly heard in North America and doesn’t directly translate to English. The term comes from Denmark and has been slowly gaining attention in the last several years, even making the shortlist for the Oxford Dictionary’s 2016 Word of the Year.
Hygge is the feeling of cosiness, comfort, and contentment. Hygge can involve drinking tea, spending time with friends, and lighting candles. In the months of winter, the dark days and cold nights can begin to wear on one’s wellbeing, and these practices become even more important. The Danes will often light many candles to combat this melancholy of winter and what better than the brightness, and warmth of a pure beeswax candle to light up those dark, cold nights. Not only do beeswax candles have an amber glow that is unmatched by other candles, but they also provide a safe, non-toxic Hygge experience.
If you are starting to feel the winter blues take a tip from Denmark and curl up with a good book and cup of tea, or spend time in the company of good friends, and of course, light some handmade Honey Candles® beeswax candles
