Rowan's Candle Fund

Thursday, January 21, 2016 | By Pat Cattermole

Kaslo is a small community with just over a 1000 people in the last census. We know our neighbors and we care about them. We heard last week that Rowan, whose parents own and run the local grocery store, was ill and was in for the fight of her life. Honey Candles owners Roy and Leah were devastated as were all of the staff. Honey Candles has created Rowan’s Candle Fund. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this pure beeswax Pink Fluted Sphere candle will go to help Rowan and her family during her fight with this disease and later during her recovery. We are giving the residents of Kaslo an opportunity to show their care and support by purchasing this candle - where else but Front Street Market, the family’s store. We have taken in this display filled with Rowan’s Candles and have already refilled it several times. The community has responded in a big way and we welcome other businesses to contact us if they would like to help sponsor this program. Give us a call at 250-353-2393.

When you buy Rowan’s Candle we want to be sure you know how to burn it. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Always place ornamentals on a pillar plate
  • Keep the wick trimmed to ¼ inch the whole time it is burning. You may have to extinguish the flame to trim it and then relight. If you see the flame is high or smoking the wick is too long and you are in danger of having a beeswax blowout on the side.
  • When burning the fluted sphere make sure the wick stays centered. If the wax breaks through the sides extinguish the candle, let it cool, see if the wick needs to be trimmed, and relight. You can ‘patch up’ any break areas with hot wax from the melt pool.

We are expecting a lot of support and great sales of Rowan’s Candles because we know how special Kaslo is as a community! That’s why we live here!

Pat Cattermole picture Published by Pat Cattermole - I had the good fortune to be hired at Honey Candles in the fall of 2004. Experience managing a small rural printing business and 15 years as an elected public school trustee has been a benefit as Honey Candles moves through the need for flexibility and the demands of rapidly changing natural products marketing. I am the Sales Manager and most likely to be the one answering the phone when you call. Social Media and blogging for Honey Candles has been a recent addition to my list of skills.
