As a manufacturer of natural beeswax candles, we have beeswax remnants leftover from the candle making process.
In collaboration with Canadian Food For Children, a volunteer-run organization with British Columbia offices, we developed an initiative called the Life Candle Program. Since May 2008 we have sent over 1200 Life Candles to families across the world.Through the Life Candle Program, we re-melt the leftover beeswax and pour it into small reused tins (tuna cans, soup cans, bean cans) collected by staff and management.
Once the candles are poured, set and finished, we pack the Life Candles into large 3-5 gallon plastic buckets (used for bulk dried beans etc) donated to us by two of our local grocery stores.
Candles are often the only source of light and heat for families in dire situations. We believe it’s important for families to have beeswax candles because the wax burns longer, brighter and hotter than any other candle wax. This means Life Candles are very useful for families who might otherwise go without light or a means to heat food and shelters.
We support CFFC’s mandate to raise funds, purchase food, and gather goods for the hungry in developing countries – here is the 2011 list of goods sent by CFFC to several countries including: Haiti, Philippines, Kenya, Congo, Ivory Coast, Sudan, Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Romania, Ukraine, and Nicaragua. For more information on CFFC’s other programs please go to www.canadianfoodforchildren.org.
Honey Candles has teamed up with Grade 5/6 students from J.V. Humphries and Jewett Schools and with the children, grandchildren and friends of our staff. The kids love to come and pour Life Candles and we love to give them the opportunity to learn about global citizenship.
You can participate in our “Have a Heart – Give a Heart” program. When you purchase a beautiful heart tin, we will send a special heart tin made by the kids to CFFC to distribute. We also encourage you to save remnants from your natural beeswax candles. You can donate them to be re-melted here and used in our Life Candles. You can send your donated wax to Honey Candles Ltd., PO Box 310, Kaslo BC, Canada V0G 1M0. You are responsible for shipping charges. Please make sure your wax is 100% pure beeswax, not mixed with other waxes.
